Religious School Director, Lynn Calnek

Our School

Lynn Calnek came to our Religious School in 2017. She brings experience and knowledge, blended with warmth and enthusiasm, to create a special environment in which to teach our next generation. Using her expertise, she has written a curriculum unique to Beth Shalom that allows us to educate our students in our own special way. Our curriculum includes not only a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Jewish people, but also a connection to our Jewish community.

Our Sunday mornings include a "Peer Connections" time that allows students to engage with each other and help foster their sense of community. Morah Lynn has created an environment that combines teaching about heritage and tradition through engaging lessons and activities with learning Hebrew in fun and innovative ways. This helps our children to feel empowered by their rich history and grow into active adult Jews that can support their community and the next generation, as well.

About Lynn

My husband Doug and I have been married since we were in college. We have three children: Aaron, who is married to our daughter-in-law, Ashley; Samantha, who is married to our son in law, Josh, and they have given us our adorable and loving granddaughter Harper; and Jennifer, who is an NC State graduate, so we feel like Raleigh is our town too. Prior to working in Jewish education, I taught Pre-K and First Grade in a low-income school in Charlotte. I have always loved children and feel tremendous gratitude that I am able to combine my love of Judaism with my love for education.

When we're not working, Doug and I enjoy traveling, going to concerts, and spending time with our three Boston Terriers. In my spare time I quilt, sing in our choir, and love to play Mah Jongg.

Please email me at lcalnek@bethshalomnc.org if you have any questions or concerns.
