Instructions to Guide Your Oneg Hosting

The Oneg is an integral part of how we build our Beth Shalom sense of community. We hope this opportunity allows you to make new friends and reconnect with old ones.

Thank you for hosting!

The Board Representative Is Your Partner and Guide
A Board Representative is your partner and guide before, during, and after the service.  Please reach out to the Board Representative assigned to your hosting night if you have any questions.

Coordinating Prior to Your Hosting
Three weeks ahead of your hosting, you will receive an email with an attachment providing detailed information. One week ahead of your hosting, SignUp Genius will send you a reminder of your hosting date. Please contact the Board Representative assigned to your hosting night directly if you would like some guidance.

The SignUp Genius lists all the host families and any special service or event. Knowing the type of Shabbat can be helpful as you plan for how much to bring. While more people may attend a special occasion Shabbat, you can expect between 30-35 attendees at a regular service. If you are unable to attend your selected night, please reach out to others to find a replacement, and let your Board Representative know. If you are unable to find a replacement, you may wish to consider posting a request in our Members of Beth Shalom Facebook group, or you may contact the office for assistance.

What To Bring
The  SignUp Genius makes the question of “what do I bring” easy and gives you the flexibility of choosing between categories of foods when signing up. While you choose a category when signing up, the host families can decide exactly what food they would like to bring—you are not bound to the categories listed.  **Please remember our temple is nut free.**

Logistics

Arriving and Leaving
The Board Representative will open the building. We ask that you arrive 30 minutes prior to the beginning of services.

Setting Up
Everything you need is easily located and clearly marked in the kitchen. Bottled water, soda and ice are supplied for beverages. We also supply the ritual items, including the Challah, wine and candles.

Greeting Guests and Members
Prior to services, the Board Representative would be glad to join one of the Oneg hosts to greet guests and members as they arrive. Please encourage guests to sign the guest book.

Cleaning Up
All host families will clean up. The Board Representative will secure the building.

For general questions or comments, please contact the office.
